Baked Caramelized Chicken Wings (Honey and Soy)

Ingredients

Check off ingredients as you go

  • 800 g (1.75 lb) chicken wings
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce (or sweet soy sauce for a milder version)
  • 1 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil or neutral oil
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger (optional)
  • 1 clove garlic, grated (optional)
  • Sesame seeds and thinly sliced scallions (spring onions), for garnish

Making the caramelized chicken wings

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) fan/convection.
  2. In a bowl, mix the honey, soy sauce, ketchup, oil, vinegar, ginger and grated garlic. Coat the chicken wings in this marinade and let them rest for 10-15 minutes (or longer if you have time).
  3. Arrange the wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 25-30 minutes, turning them halfway through. For a more caramelized result, switch to the broiler (grill) for 2-3 minutes at the end, if needed.
  4. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and scallions before serving. Serve with roasted potatoes or plain or fried basmati rice.
